The Springfield Museum of Art Infusion & Interface Campus Project was a Construction Project that blended a modernization of the museum’s conference rooms along with renovations to the auditorium and ADA upgrades to the existing museum campus. Some unique specialties were also included in this project such as a new loft to the museum, a new art gallery display system and a dance stage. Other upgrades included landscaping to the campus, HVAC and electrical updates.

In total over 30 rooms were included in this project for flooring, lighting and acoustical ceilings as well as the entrance floor corridors. This project covered in excess of 13,000 square foot of space for the Springfield Museum and the School of Arts.

Fire wall installation was completed to conform to local building code along with sound insulation on some select rooms that were upgraded for the musical usage. In order to display students work projects, some 200 foot of aluminum track was installed along with hanger cables and support hooks for the art work.

The work for this project was completed during normal museum operations. There was no interruption to the museums programs and exhibitions during the course of renovation. This was extremely critical to the Springfield Museum of Art. The Springfield Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of exquisite American Art collection, which is open to the public for their enjoyment.

This construction project was a $525,000 renovation to the facility. This project commenced in January 2008 and was completed in October 2008 including all change orders requested during the course of the project. C & N Industrial Contractors self-performed work was 35% of the total project.

Springfield, Ohio March 28, 2016: The 2016 Entrepreneurial Business Award, presented by the Junior Achievement of the Mad River Region will go to C&N Contractors of Springfield, Ohio. President and CEO, Plato Pavlatos, stated, “We are honored to receive this prestigious award. We are proud of the work we did as general contractor on the Bushnell Building project and what it means to downtown Springfield and our region. The platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council is indicative of the importance of this project to our community.”

Also being honored are Peter Noonan with the 2016 Laureate Award and John McGregor Sr. with this year’s Posthumous Laureate Award. The award will be presented at the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Banquet to be held on May 19th at the Courtyard by Marriott in Springfield. The banquet begins at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $85 per person. Guests are asked to RSVP by May 12.

Bushnell Building Code Blue

One of Springfield’s more beautiful downtown structures, the Historic Bushnell Building was built in 1893 and is registered on the Historic Registry of Buildings. This five story building has over 100,000 square feet and was home to the patent attorney of the Wright Brothers.

101_9586A complete restoration of its interior, exterior, and adjacent parking garage was completed as part of the Ohio Job Ready Site Grant project. C & N Contractors, Inc. was involved with preliminary planning and design which included design and construction to LEED standards. Many of the building components were bio-based products including insulation, floor finishes, and casework.

Other unique sustainable design elements include rain water collection for non-potable water use, heat generated by computer room equipment used to provide supplemental building heat, and surpassing initial expectations for reuse of existing building materials.

Existing architectural features discovered during demolition, were reused such as marble floors, tile designs, brick and stone walls, arches, and interior windows.

Over 330 wood windows replaced with hand crafted windows approved by the Ohio Historic Preservation Office and National Park Service.

All exterior masonry restored with decorative terra cotta being removed, mapped, restored, and reinstalled. Documentation is being finalized for submitting this project as a LEED Platinum.

70% of the total construction cost went to local subcontractors and suppliers.

Fairfield Career Center

SHP designed a phased renovation and addition program to address the current and future needs of the Fairfield Career Center as it prepares students and adult learners for life-long learning and success in the job market.

Key features include:

  • New spaces including classroom and lab space for medical assisting, dental assisting, LPN, health technology, and health and recreation services programs
  • Two labs that were designed to be larger, with more technology and electrical access to meet the needs of Biotechnology should the program be added in the future
  • The phased project keeps the building operational while maintaining safety for all students and staff. SHP is also designing new classroom, lab, and multi-purpose space for the Eastland Career Center to meet culinary and commercial arts programs as well as adult education for local business needs

With the focus on attracting students interested in advanced science and technology programs to the campus, this facility offers a strong design presence and features dedicated labs with integrated, specialized equipment for:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology; Alternative Energy; Robotics and Industrial Technology
  • Medical Assistance Technologies and Radiology
  • Physical science labs for Anatomy, Biology, and Physics

The labs are supported by a development (A/V) studio, an 80-seat lecture hall and a computer lab for using processor-intensive software programs. A variety of general classrooms with flexible configurations and breakout spaces create opportunities for student collaboration. A large commons galleria provides the commuter population with ample space for relaxing and studying between classes. An outdoor classroom and courtyard meets the alternative energy program needs.
